2nd batch typhoon relief for Eastern Samar

10967721_776216379122005_491671749_nIt was stated in a previous blog entry ( Dec 7 Typhoon Ruby and Jan 17 Typhoon/Tropical Storm Amang ) that we planned on Pastor Randy delivering a second batch of typhoon relief to Eastern Samar.  That was completed, and here’s a report and pictures from it.  Just like last time, PAMI supplied another 10,000 pesos ($240) and Pastor Randy was able to multiply it to 50,350 pesos ($1200) with contributions from local churches.  1000 pesos of relief goods (including 10 kilograms = 22 lbs rice plus groceries) were distributed to each of 45 families in Dolores, Eastern Samar.

Dec 7 Typhoon Ruby and Jan 17 Typhoon/Tropical Storm Amang

10928112_764531160290527_42631307_nIt seems that the central Philippines has been pummeled with more typhoons than normal for the last year or two.  After our area got hit hard by Typhoon Glenda in July, we’ve also had close calls with Typhoon Ruby on Dec 7 and Typhoon/Tropical Storm Amang on Jan 17.  For Ruby and Amang, PAMI people only sustained minor damage, which we’ve allotted $375 and $300 for respectively.  But Ruby and Amang both hit eastern Samar a lot harder, both making landfall near the towns of Oras and Dolores.  Although we don’t currently have PAMI ministries in those places, we still felt compassion for them since they’re just on the other side of the same island of where PAMI Pastor Randy Rivera ministers.  In turn, we supplied Pastor Randy with 10,000 pesos (i.e. $240) to bring some aid to Oras.  Pastor Randy also contacted local businesses and churches, until the amount of aid grew to 63,200 pesos (i.e. $1500), which was over six times what was started with!  He used that to buy relief goods that were supplied to 52 families that needed it the most.  They were each given a bag of 10 kilograms (22 pounds) of rice and a bag of other goods like milk, sugar, coffee, sardines, noodles, meat loaf, sausage, soap, toothpaste, etc.

More typhoon relief delivered

DSC_0186
Here are pictures and a report of the 3rd batch of relief supplied by PAMI to victims of the November 6th super-typhoon Haiyan.  This 3rd batch included 80 blankets brought this week via motorcycles to Marabut and Lawaan in southern Samar by Pastor Randy Rivera and one of his church members Brother Mykel.  They left on Sunday afternoon and returned on Tuesday night.  Randy Rivera is a PAMI pastor in Allen, Northern Samar–the other end of the same island as Marabut and Lawaan (about a four hour trip away).  He has gone there a few times to bring assistance and counseling.  See previous blog entries for pictures from his earlier visits there.

Second batch typhoon relief is delivered early January 2014

After mentioning some things about super-typhoon Haiyan in the November 2013 PAMI newsletter, I am happy to let you know a couple encouraging addendums.1045171_581570288586616_1324445718_n
For one thing, Pastor Randy Rivera’s electricity in Allen, Northern Samar was finally restored after 25 days, so he was able to resume his daily radio programs.  For another thing, we praise God how PAMI supporters like yourselves have so far given over $1600 designated to typhoon relief.  In turn, we have been able to authorize Pastor Randy to buy and deliver three batches of help ($500 delivered early Dec, $600 delivered early Jan, and $575 to be delivered in February).  By the way, when Pastor Randy mentioned on his radio program about the second batch of typhoon relief, local people of Allen also contributed towards the effort, such that the $600 turned into about $1300.  Isn’t it wonderful how Filipinos also pitched in to more than match the help to their fellow countrymen in need!  It’s kind of like how the loaves and fishes were multiplied when Jesus wanted to feed the 5000.
