2019 Summary, January 2020 PAMI Bulletin and Typhoon Recovery

By the end of January, year-end statements and a January 2020 PAMI Bulletin were mailed out to those that made 2019 contributions to PAMI.  The year-end statements included the following summary of PAMI ministries in 2019:
Dear Friends:
Thank you for your gifts and prayers for PAMI in 2019.  They are fitting of Hebrews 13:16 that says “And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.”
This has been another fruitful year of ministry. About 65 people were baptized!  Three graduated from Emmaus Bible Institute on April 3rd.  Two of the three were added as workers, along with a couple that graduated in previous years.  We were able to distribute another 500 Operation Christmas Child boxes and carry out a lot of discipleship along with that.  160 Compassion sponsored kids were served weekly at EBI.  An all-PAMI youth camp was held in April and a crusade in May, with a couple hundred attending each.  Churches were started in Culasi Matnog and San Jose Bulusan.  Other gatherings, retreats, and workshops were held.  Film showings, Christian radio, Bible study outreaches, children’s feedings, and VBS continued.  Weekly Values Instruction Classes were done in several public schools and Family Development Sessions were held with government welfare recipients.  Several balikbayan boxes were sent with books, CDs, games, toys, school and office supplies, hygiene supplies, clothes, laptops and projectors.  Some building refurbishment/improvement and typhoon relief/repairs were done.  It’s through the partnership of dedicated Filipino workers and faithful supporters like you that all this is possible.
Regarding the January 2020 PAMI Bulletin , it includes before and after repair pictures of two of the worst hit PAMI buildings–the PenaFrancia Church near EBI and Candumaay Matnog Church.  It also has some pictures of distribution of typhoon relief goods.  And page 2 is a January 7 report from Sis Ofel that praises God for batches of typhoon relief from different sources along with corresponding ministry opportunities.  For more info and pictures, see below: Read More

In honor of the 14th anniversary of Living in Christ (LINC) Church –formerly known as Brampton Community Christian Church–of Brampton, Ontario, this is a five minute presentation of video and pictures from the PAMI ministries that they have supported the last two years. This includes support in 2018 that funded construction of a new building for Fabrica Church in Bulan, Sorsogon, Philippines. And it also includes support that began in 2019 to fund the ministry of Pastor Michael and Michelle Hista in Matnog, Sorsogon, Philippines. The Histas have a church in Candumaay, Sta Isabel, Matnog that celebrated its 2nd anniversary in April 2019. They also have a daughter church meeting in the home of Sister Joyce Manabut in Culasi, Matnog, that began after a May 2019 crusade in Culasi. Philippine-Asian Missions, Inc (www.pamimission.org) wishes to express a big thank you for this partnership.

VIC classes taught in public schools

Various PAMI pastors, workers, and Emmaus Bible Institute students are teaching Values Instruction Classes in elementary and high school public schools throughout the Province.  These are 30 minute classes taught weekly using Christian based curriculum and training from the Matthew 18:14 organization.  This public service is an avenue for connecting with families and the community, as well as exposing kids to Christian values.  It’s interesting that the Philippine government actually encourages churches to help install values to students, instead of worrying about separation of church and state like in the U.S.  EBI VIC teachers are becoming well-respected by public school teachers, principals, and town officials.  Sis Ofel has even been asked to be a commencement speaker.  Increased familiarity also means students and parents will be more open to joining other ministries of EBI or attend church at Emmaus Christian Fellowship.  For instance, some of these students will later be recipients of Operation Christmas Child boxes and discipleship, or become Compassion sponsored kids.  The first few photos are from a Matthew 18:14 training session: Read More

Note that Ptr Gumer Gile, Ptr Jess Huab, Ptr Michael Hista and other local pastors embrace the philosophy of the Church Multiplication Coalition, which is to plant a church in every community/village/barangay.  Ptr Gumer attended a CMC national conference near Manila last November, and also hosted a CMC session for local pastors in his ICC house church.  Here are a few photos from that: Read More

VVMI/VVM Minneapolis visit and Ptr Lorenzo film showing testimonies

L to R: Colin Edwards of VVMI, John Stacknik of ICLD, Darwin Banyani of VVM, Mike Thorud of PAMI

As mentioned in the previous posting, we were happy to have visitors in Minneapolis from VVMI/VVM. Darwin Banyani came all the way from the Philippines and Colin Edwards came from central Illinois.  About 22 enjoyed their presentation at Emmaus Lutheran church on Sunday evening, October 28.  I also enjoyed seeing them give a short presentation at International Christian Literature Distributors on Wednesday, October 24.  We’ve recently been talking with ICLD about distributing Christian reference books to Filipino pastors via balikbayan boxes.
Darwin is the VVM field director based out of Baguio in Northern Luzon, and Colin is the VVMI U.S.A. executive director.  VVMI stands for Vernacular Video Mission International, which supports production and use of culturally relevant Bible-based media with local dialects throughout the world (see https://vvmi.org/ ).  While VVMI started with field branches in the north and south ends of the Philippines, it now includes partnerships throughout the Philippines, and other countries in Asia, Central and South American, and Africa.  Some interesting cross pollination has included dubbing South American VINA finger puppet Bible stories for children into other languages for use in other countries.

As part of VVM’s Church Mobilization Initiative, VVM has reached out to new areas of the Philippines the last couple years, including the area where PAMI is located.  In fact, Darwin has spent a couple months setting up a small branch office/studio in Irosin and worked with PAMI pastors like Gumer Gile and Lorenzo Fugen.  Colin has also visited Irosin.  Pastors Gumer and Lorenzo have helped with dubbing films, doing a lot of film showings, distributing Bibles, and conducting follow-up Bible studies.
Here is a VVM CMI report that includes a lot of testimonies from PAMI film shower, Ptr Lorenzo Fugen:
